Prabowo Warns Against Human Trafficking Scams After Five Indonesians Shot in Malaysia,
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – President Prabowo Subianto has urged Indonesians to remain vigilant and not fall victim to false promises made by human trafficking syndicates.
His remarks came in response to an incident where Malaysia’s Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) opened fire on five Indonesian nationals off the coast of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia. The shooting left one person dead and four others injured.
"Our people must not be deceived by syndicates making empty promises," Prabowo stated after delivering a keynote address at the 2025 TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting at The Tribrata, Jakarta, on Thursday (Jan. 30).
The president warned against illegal activities, including unauthorized entry into foreign countries, emphasizing the risks involved.
"I remind everyone—do not engage in illegal activities. If you sneak into another country, there are consequences, and the authorities there will act," he stressed.
Prabowo also revealed that he had discussed the shooting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, though only in broad terms.
"We have touched on the issue in general discussions," he said.
He expressed confidence that the Malaysian government would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
"We remain cautious and will continue to remind people, but we also trust that Malaysian authorities will carry out a proper investigation," he added.
