The visit underscores the strengthening ties between Indonesia and India, with a focus on bilateral cooperation in health, culture, maritime security, and digital technology.
Prabowo was invited as a guest of honor by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu to attend the Republic Day celebrations on Jan. 26, 2025. “I have been invited as a guest of honor for the 76th Republic Day of India. During this visit, I will also hold bilateral meetings with President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi,” Prabowo said during a press briefing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta before his departure.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The President highlighted that the visit aims to finalize several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the two nations. These agreements will cover areas such as health, cultural exchange programs, maritime security, and the development of digital and technological infrastructure. “The MoUs will span various sectors, including health, culture, security, maritime safety, and digital technology development,” Prabowo explained.
In addition to government-level discussions, Prabowo will meet with Indian business leaders to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia. He will be accompanied by representatives from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), who will participate in talks aimed at fostering economic collaboration. “I will also meet with prominent Indian industrialists and entrepreneurs interested in investing in Indonesia. Kadin representatives will be present to facilitate these discussions,” Prabowo added.
India’s Republic Day, celebrated annually on Jan. 26, marks the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. Prabowo’s presence as a guest of honor reflects the deepening diplomatic and strategic partnership between Indonesia and India, two of Asia’s largest democracies.
