MAKKAH, Investortrust.id — Indonesia is ready to take a leadership role in the global halal industry, Titi Khoiriah, Head of the Sharia Economy Agency of Kadin Indonesia, said at the Makkah Halal Forum 2026 in Makkah on Friday, Jan 16, 2026. She stated that the country aims to shift from being a major consumer market to becoming a key producer and strategic partner in the international halal supply chain.
Titi participated as an international panelist at the forum, which gathered industry leaders, regulators, certification bodies, and halal business players from multiple countries. The event discussed strategies to strengthen the global halal ecosystem amid rising demand for certified products and services.
She presented a paper titled “Indonesia’s Potential and Role in the Global Halal Ecosystem” and highlighted the country’s structural advantages. These included the world’s largest Muslim population, a vast domestic market, and a rapidly expanding industrial base.
“Indonesia must not only be positioned as a consumer market for global halal products, but also as a producer and strategic partner in the international halal supply chain,” Titi said. “We have the capacity to become a key driver of growth in the global halal economy.”
She emphasized that accelerating Mutual Recognition Agreements and harmonizing halal standards across countries were essential to expanding market access. Bilateral cooperation, halal trade diplomacy, and regional integration were also cited as critical instruments.
Through stronger Mutual Recognition Agreements, Indonesian exporters would face fewer barriers in entering overseas markets. This approach would also improve competitiveness by ensuring internationally accepted certification standards.
Titi underscored the role of Kadin Indonesia, the country’s largest business lobby, in building an integrated halal ecosystem from upstream production to downstream distribution. She said the chamber served as a bridge between the government, businesses, and international partners.
“Kadin Indonesia acts as a catalyst for synergy between the government, business actors, and international partners, so Indonesia can transform into an engine of growth in the Global Halal Economy,” she said.
She also stressed the need to strengthen the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises to meet global certification standards. According to her, regulatory support alone would not be sufficient without improvements in quality, productivity, and innovation.
“Makkah Halal Forum 2026 is a strategic stage to reaffirm that Indonesia is ready to assume a leadership role in shaping the future of the global halal industry,” Titi said.
