JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto meets leaders of 16 Islamic mass organizations on Tuesday, Feb 3, 2026 in Jakarta to discuss Indonesia participation in the Board of Peace as part of diplomatic efforts to support Palestinian independence.
After the four hour meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Islamic organizations publicly support Indonesia decision to join the Board of Peace, citing humanitarian and diplomatic considerations.
Secretary General of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti says discussions run constructively and produce a shared understanding of Indonesia foreign policy direction on Palestine.
"All Islamic organizations strongly support the Indonesian government's political step to be involved in the Board of Peace," Abdul Mu'ti says at the presidential palace complex.
He explains President Prabowo outlines global geopolitical dynamics, conditions in Gaza, and Indonesia long standing commitment to Palestinian independence during the meeting.
Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Yahya Cholil Staquf says Prabowo presents realistic and strategic considerations in responding to the Gaza crisis through diplomatic channels.
"We understand the President message to remain cautious and not be carried away by currents that could ultimately harm Palestine," Yahya says.
Prabowo assures Islamic leaders that Indonesia assistance to Palestine will prioritize vigilance and humanitarian protection, including the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces.
Yahya also supports the financial contribution mechanism for the Board of Peace, citing the scale of Gaza reconstruction needs.

"The agenda involves massive financing for Gaza recovery, so mobilizing funding is unavoidable," he says.
Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council Muhammad Cholil Nafis says Prabowo commits to withdrawing Indonesia from the Board of Peace if its actions deviate from Palestinian independence goals.
"The President said if policies do not align, Indonesia will abstain or even exit the Board of Peace," Cholil Nafis says.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa later confirms Indonesia planned contribution of US$ 1 billion, equal to $1 billion, will be sourced initially from the Defense Ministry budget with possible reallocation within the state budget.
He emphasizes the funds are intended for post conflict reconstruction and humanitarian recovery in Gaza, not a membership fee.
Foreign Minister Sugiono adds that participation in the Board of Peace remains voluntary and aligned with Indonesia constitutional mandate to oppose colonialism and promote world peace.
