JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Kadin Indonesia chairman Anindya Bakrie urges the India Chamber to strengthen trade and investment ties on Thursday, Dec 11, 2025 in Jakarta as both countries seek to turn long standing relations into concrete economic action, a move expected to expand cross border business and digital cooperation. He delivers the message during the IndCham Gala Dinner amid growing global uncertainty and rising competition for capital.
Bakrie said Indonesia and India shared centuries of commercial ties and now faced a major opportunity to translate political goodwill into real economic outcomes. He stressed that expectations were high for cooperation between the two Global South economies.
“Many people have high expectations for Indonesia India cooperation, and they see the leaders of both countries as a bright spot in the Global South,” Bakrie said. “We know that both governments are ready to move from political goodwill into economic action.”
He added that Indonesia continued to offer wide opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs who had long contributed to national development. Bakrie said deeper collaboration could also encourage greater Indonesian investment flows into India.
India’s ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, welcomed the call and highlighted diversification as a key strategy to manage global economic risks, including potential reciprocal tariffs from the United States. He illustrated the point with a lighthearted Irish joke about the Murphy twins to stress that businesses should not depend on a single partner.
“We have to diversify, build networks, and have more partners than we currently do,” Chakravorty said. “I think this is one of the keys behind a successful business.”
Chakravorty also underlined the importance of stronger synergy between the India Chamber and Kadin Indonesia to support economic growth in both countries. He said Indian investment and entrepreneurship had already made a significant contribution to Indonesia’s economy.
In the same event, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said India stood out as one of the world’s most dynamic digital economies. He pointed to India’s Unified Payments Interface and Aadhaar national identity system as proof of its leadership in digital transformation.
Patria said India’s technology and digital sector generated $254 billion in revenue and employed more than 5.4 million professionals, adding over 800,000 tech workers in the past three years. He added that Indonesia, with 215 million internet users, was projected to reach a $360 billion digital economy by 2030, creating strong potential for deeper digital and technology cooperation with India.
