JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — MRT Jakarta halts full operations on Thursday Nov 20 2025 in South Jakarta after a fallen tree strikes the elevated track near ASEAN Station, marking the first major disruption of the year and forcing services to run only between Blok M and Lebak Bulus while recovery work proceeds.
The incident stops trains at 10.26 local time and leaves eight trainsets stranded, prompting the operator to evacuate 524 passengers under safety procedures.
Corporate Secretary Head of PT MRT Jakarta Rendy Primartantyo says the emergency occurred in a transition area near Senayan Mastercard Station and caused structural damage and electrical interruptions that required an immediate suspension of full service.
"We apologize for the inconvenience experienced by our customers due to this operational disruption," Rendy says in the official statement.
He notes that technical teams assessed the site and found damage to the guideway structure and power network, making it unsafe to continue operations.
"Handling efforts are ongoing to ensure our services can return to normal as soon as possible," he says.
To maintain partial mobility, MRT Jakarta launches a Limited Travel Route using four trainsets serving only Blok M BCA Station to Lebak Bulus and back.
Rendy urges passengers to consider alternative public transport as long as repair work continues. "Updates on recovery efforts will be delivered regularly through our official channels," he says.
The disruption immediately increases passenger loads on connecting services, prompting PT Transportasi Jakarta to strengthen its network with faster headways and more buses.
Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta Ayu Wardhani says the company deployed additional units to stabilize mobility for affected commuters.
"We coordinated these reinforcements quickly to maintain smooth, fast, and comfortable mobility for residents, especially MRT customers," Ayu says.
Transjakarta reduces headways on Corridor 1 from Blok M to Kota to three minutes, while route S21 receives four more buses, raising the total to twenty two. Route 1E gains five additional units, bringing its total fleet to sixteen.
Ayu stresses that the measures aim to prevent bottlenecks during the MRT outage and provide predictable travel options while waiting for full rail service to resume.
MRT Jakarta reiterates that service normalization remains the priority and that all actions place passenger safety at the forefront.
