SUBANG, Investortrust.id — PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java, or PHE ONWJ, part of Pertamina’s Regional Java Upstream Subholding, has revived its EZB offshore platform off the coast of Subang, West Java, marking a major milestone in optimizing Indonesia’s legacy oil and gas assets. After being idle since 2010, the platform has resumed production at 374 barrels of oil per day.
The reactivation demonstrates PHE ONWJ’s innovative strategy to extract more value from mature assets through efficiency and technological upgrades. The first two reactivated wells, EZB-1S and EZB-3S, began producing oil following successful test production on Sunday, Oct 26, 2025. The project aligns with PHE ONWJ’s role as a production sharing contractor under SKK Migas oversight and supports Indonesia’s national energy security objectives.
General Manager PHE ONWJ Muzwir Wiratama said the project reflects the company’s mission to sustain national oil and gas output amid natural declines at aging fields.
“This is proof of our commitment to managing state assets responsibly. Our mission is clear—to awaken untapped potential and make a real contribution to national production,” Wira said in a statement on Wednesday, Nov 5, 2025.
Wira explained that restoring facilities inactive for over a decade required extensive technical analysis, system integrity checks, and adaptive technology. “Our team ensured every system was safe, reanalyzed subsurface data, and applied the best techniques to ‘draw out’ oil from old wells,” he said.
He added that the 374-barrel-per-day output resulted from optimized use of gas-lift technology. “In simple terms, we gave the wells ‘artificial respiration’—injecting new energy so oil could rise to the surface again. It’s a tangible outcome of our engineers’ expertise,” he noted.
Wira emphasized that every recovered barrel from aging fields represented efficiency gains and progress toward national energy independence. “The upstream sector must not rely solely on new discoveries—it must also be smart in managing existing assets. Each reactivated barrel is a victory for efficiency and resilience,” he said.
Looking ahead, PHE ONWJ plans to extend the initiative to other wells on the EZB platform, including EZB-1L, EZB-4, and EZB-2. “The initial gain of 374 barrels per day is promising. We’ll continue similar work safely, efficiently, and sustainably,” he added.
As part of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, Pertamina’s upstream subholding overseeing domestic and international operations, Regional Java coordinates oil and gas production across western Java, including PHE ONWJ, PHE OSES, Pertamina EP West Java, and Pertamina East Natuna.
The region continues to improve output performance while upholding good corporate governance and health, safety, security, and environmental standards. These principles guide PHE’s efforts to sustain operations, strengthen energy independence, and contribute to community welfare.
