Area Manager for Communication, Relations, and CSR at RU Dumai, Agustiawan, said the refinery’s firefighting team was focusing on containing the blaze at one of the units.
“Response teams have been deployed immediately to carry out firefighting efforts and isolate the incident so it does not spread to other areas,” Agustiawan said in a statement received by the media on Wednesday.
The cause of the incident remained unknown as of late Wednesday night, with investigations yet to be conducted. The company said its primary focus was on bringing the fire under control and ensuring the safety of surrounding communities.
Agustiawan apologized for the disruption caused by the incident and appealed for public understanding.
“We sincerely apologize for the disturbance this has caused to nearby residents. We ask for prayers from the community so that this incident can be resolved quickly and safely,” he added.
Fuel Supply Secured
Kilang Pertamina Internasional has assured that fuel supplies remain secure following the incident at its Dumai Refinery unit. The company emphasized that energy distribution to the public continues uninterrupted, supported by transfers from other Pertamina refineries across Indonesia.
The Dumai Refinery is one of the operational units that provides fuel for northern Sumatra. Area Manager for Communication, Relations, and CSR at the Dumai Refinery, Agustiawan, said that Pertalite supplies were unaffected.
“For diesel needs in Dumai and Siak, as well as aviation fuel requirements in Pekanbaru, the Dumai Refinery remains capable of meeting demand. Meanwhile, other areas in northern Sumatra are supported through supply transfers from other Pertamina refineries,” Agustiawan said in Pekanbaru on Wednesday, Oct 1, 2025.
Pertamina confirmed that inter-refinery transfers were working effectively to mitigate local operational disruptions. Agustiawan underlined that distribution channels and fuel stock levels remained secure, ensuring public consumption was not impacted.
“With the support of our other refineries across Indonesia, we guarantee that there will be no disruption to supply for the public. Fuel stock and distribution remain at safe levels,” he said.
He stressed that Pertamina’s commitment is to safeguard national energy security, even in emergency situations. “We are grateful for the support of all stakeholders. With strong synergy and responsive action, the impact of this incident can be handled effectively without causing significant disruption to society,” Agustiawan concluded.
