JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, known as Kadin, has called for calm and unity following unrest in Jakarta over the past two weeks. Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie on Saturday, Aug 30, 2025, urged all parties to ensure safety and stability so that people can return to work and the economy can recover.
Kadin first extended its condolences on the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle driver who was killed on Thursday, Aug 28, 2025, during a protest that turned violent. The business group also expressed sympathy for another driver, Moh Umar Amirudin, who was seriously injured in the same incident.
“Kadin prays for the late Affan Kurniawan and his family and hopes Umar Amirudin makes a full recovery so he can return to work,” Anindya said in a press statement.
Kadin also voiced full support for President Prabowo Subianto, who had instructed that the Aug 28 incident be investigated thoroughly and transparently, with officers held accountable. The president had urged the public to remain calm, stressing that chaos would harm ordinary citizens and hinder national development.
The business chamber emphasized that unrest posed risks to both workers and businesses. “Economic hardship must be faced together by maintaining security, so everyone can work and carry out their activities. As long as security is disrupted, economic activities will suffer,” Anindya said, urging dialogue as the best channel for grievances.
Anindya further called on authorities to open dialogue with protest groups, saying only through respectful discussion could aspirations be weighed and resolved. He urged the spirit of “Indonesia Inc,” or collective cooperation, to guide these conversations.
The chamber also reminded policymakers to show sensitivity toward public hardships such as low incomes, rising living costs, fragile employment conditions, and widening social inequality.
Kadin stressed that giving President Prabowo and his administration room to deliver on their promises required a commitment from all sides to uphold stability. “Kadin calls on everyone to trust each other and safeguard security. Do not be provoked by divisive issues. Security stability is a prerequisite for economic development. Without it, we cannot build,” Anindya said.
