JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Telekomunikasi Selular, or Telkomsel (TSEL), has signed a memorandum of understanding with OpenAI on Thursday, Aug 21, 2025, to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in Indonesia, with a focus on corporate and industrial sectors. The announcement was made during the Telkomsel Solution Day 2025 in Jakarta.
Through the agreement, both companies will explore AI applications across industries, including customer service optimization, data-driven analytics, and cross-ecosystem innovation.
Telkomsel Director of Planning and Transformation Wong Soon Nam said the collaboration marked a major step in the country’s digital transformation. “We believe sustainable growth can be achieved through relevant innovation and the proper use of technology,” he said.
As part of the partnership, Telkomsel plans to introduce ChatGPT Enterprise to its employees, aimed at enhancing AI literacy and workplace productivity. The company also committed to expanding access to AI technologies to the broader public, leveraging its nationwide network to ensure adoption reaches even remote regions.
OpenAI, led at the signing by Managing Director Oliver Jay, is expected to contribute its globally recognized generative AI capabilities. The partnership is projected to create tangible benefits across priority sectors such as banking, energy, mining, logistics, and government services.
The move also comes as Telkomsel continues to diversify its AI strategy. Previously, the state-controlled operator partnered with OpenAI competitor Perplexity to strengthen its business-to-consumer offerings, tapping into growing demand for AI tools in everyday life.
