JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s House of Representatives has received a presidential letter nominating 24 candidates for ambassadorial postings to friendly nations and international organizations. In accordance with parliamentary procedures, the review process will remain confidential, House Speaker Puan Maharani said on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The nominations, officially referred to as candidates for “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,” were submitted by President Prabowo Subianto through a letter dated July 1, 2025. The letter was acknowledged during the DPR’s 22nd plenary session of the 2024–2025 legislative term.
“In accordance with Article 231 of DPR Regulation No. 1 of 2020 on House Procedures, the presidential letter on ambassadorial nominations must be submitted without naming the individuals or the receiving countries. The related commission will discuss the names in a closed-door session,” Puan said during the plenary.
The plenary subsequently approved assigning the review process to Komisi I, which oversees foreign affairs, defense, and information. Puan formally sought the assembly’s consent for the commission’s assignment, which was granted unanimously by the attending lawmakers.
“The results of the commission’s deliberations will be reported to the House leadership and then conveyed to the President—both on a confidential basis,” Puan said.
After the session, Puan confirmed in a press conference that the nominations included candidates for ambassadorial roles to the United States and the United Nations, but she declined to provide names or specify countries.
“There are 24 countries proposed by the government, and those names have been submitted,” she said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
She reiterated the importance of confidentiality in the selection process, citing the need to uphold integrity and professionalism.
“The names and the discussions are confidential. This pertains to the candidates’ identities and is part of protecting their integrity,” she said.
