Indonesia Pledges Support for Earthquake Recovery in Thailand and Myanmar

JAKARTA, investortrust.id – President Prabowo Subianto says Indonesia is ready to support recovery efforts in Thailand and Myanmar after a powerful earthquake struck the two countries on Friday, claiming lives and damaging infrastructure.
In an official post on social media platform X, President Prabowo conveyed Indonesia’s willingness to provide assistance to affected areas. “Indonesia is prepared to offer all necessary support for recovery efforts in the impacted regions,” he wrote Friday evening.
The president also expressed deep condolences to the governments and people of both countries. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Thailand and Myanmar during this difficult time,” he said, as reported by Indonesia’s national news agency Antara on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at around 1 p.m. local time on Friday, with its epicenter located 13 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing. Tremors were felt as far as central and northern Thailand, including in Bangkok.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the main shock was followed by a 6.4 magnitude aftershock just 12 minutes later.
As of Saturday morning, at least 144 people have died and hundreds more were injured in Myanmar. In Thailand, six people have been confirmed dead, and 117 others remain missing or trapped, including in a collapsed skyscraper in Bangkok.
In response to the disaster, Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra has declared Bangkok a disaster zone and ordered emergency agencies to initiate rapid response efforts.
Local media in Myanmar reported extensive damage in the city of Mandalay, including the collapse of the Old Sagaing Bridge, which cut off access between Mandalay and Sagaing. Myanmar authorities have officially declared a state of emergency in response to the disaster.
