CMNP Shares Soar on Salim Group Takeover Speculation
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Shares of PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada Tbk, or CMNP, have hit the upper auto-reject limit for three consecutive days amid speculation that conglomerate Salim Group could emerge as the company’s controlling shareholder.
The surge in CMNP’s stock price follows news of the resignation of Jusuf Hamka’s children, Fitria Yusuf and Feisal Hamka, from their positions as CEO and commissioner, respectively. This move has fueled rumors of a potential ownership shift.
According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), CMNP shares skyrocketed from Rp 1,520 to Rp 2,960 over three trading days, marking a 94.73% increase. The IDX has since flagged CMNP stock as unusual market activity (UMA).
While rumors swirl about Salim Group’s interest in CMNP, the conglomerate, led by Anthony Salim, has long been speculated to have ties to the company. Reports of Salim’s involvement date back to 2011, when Hary Tanoe Sudibjo sold his entire stake in CMNP. Although Salim Group was rumored to have acquired those shares, the company has never issued an official statement confirming ownership.
Salim Group is no stranger to the toll road business. Through its subsidiary First Pacific, the group dominates the toll road sector in the Philippines via Metro Pacific Tollways. In Indonesia, Salim Group solidified its foothold in the industry with its 2017 acquisition of a majority stake in PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk (META). Currently, Metro Pacific Tollways controls 96.07% of META shares.
In response to speculation about Salim Group becoming a controlling shareholder, CMNP Corporate Secretary Hasyim issued a statement through the IDX on Tuesday (15/1/2025). Hasyim clarified that the company has not received any notifications or correspondence from either shareholders or Salim Group regarding a potential takeover.
According to CMNP’s shareholder registry as of December 2024, BNP Paribas Securities Services (BP2S) holds a 59.93% stake in CMNP, while public shareholders own 39.19%.
While the market buzz intensifies, investors eagerly await further announcements regarding CMNP’s future ownership structure and Salim Group’s potential involvement.
