JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), Indonesia’s largest thermal coal producer by reserves, has acquired 100% of Mount Margaret, a mining company incorporated under Australian law, in a deal valued at US$22.01 million.
The cross-border buyout marks the latest step in Bumi’s operational transformation as it accelerates business diversification outside its core thermal coal portfolio.
According to a corporate disclosure filed with the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the transaction was finalized on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. The purchase was executed through Bumi Resources Australia Pty Ltd (BRA), a direct, wholly owned Australian operating unit of the Jakarta-listed parent.
Structural Transitions
Under the agreed terms, BRA acquired two ordinary shares, representing the entire issued and outstanding share capital of Mount Margaret, for an aggregate consideration of US$22.008 million. Following the settlement of the transaction, Bumi Resources holds an indirect 100% equity stake in the Australian company.
Bumi Resources Director R.A. Sri Dharmayanti noted that the cross-border purchase aligns with the company's broader structural transition into non-coal natural resource assets.
"The execution of this transaction is a strategic step aligned with the company's transformation roadmap," Sri Dharmayanti said in the corporate filing. "The acquisition of Mount Margaret also forms an integral part of BUMI’s business diversification program outside the coal sector."
The transaction expands Bumi's international resource holdings and adds an offshore operational platform in Australia to support its long-term portfolio diversification.
