JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s healthcare expenditure has climbed to Rp 670 trillion ($42.1 billion) annually, turning the sector into a primary engine for national economic growth and attracting fresh capital from international and domestic investors.
Anindya Bakrie, General Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin)—the country’s chief business advocacy organization—highlighted the market’s massive scale on Friday, July 24, 2026, citing a white paper compiled by the chamber.
The market surge comes as top domestic players move to capture local demand, exemplified by pharmaceutical company PT Tempo Scan Pacific Tbk (TSPC) establishing a joint venture with international partners to expand domestic manufacturing.
Southeast Asia’s largest economy is actively seeking to reduce its heavy reliance on imported medical equipment and foreign pharmaceutical ingredients.
Healthcare spending generates a high economic multiplier effect, where every Rp 1 spent in the sector yields Rp 2 to Rp 3 in broader economic output, according to Kadin’s research.
By shifting production locally, Indonesia aims to relieve financial pressure on BPJS Kesehatan, the state health insurance agency, while creating supply chain opportunities for domestic manufacturers and small businesses.
Health Is the New Wealth
"Health is the new wealth," Anindya Bakrie stated during an interview at the Tempo Scan Tower in South Jakarta on Friday, July 24, 2026.
He explained that growing investor interest in healthcare serves as a clear signal of robust domestic consumption and rising market confidence across non-governmental economic pillars.
"This is a sign that domestic and foreign investment is beginning to stir, signaling that Indonesia's domestic consumption remains strong," Bakrie added at the event.
The trend was marked by the official signing of the Deed of Establishment for PT Tempo CTTQ Biopharmaceutical Indonesia (TCBI), a partnership between PT Tempo Scan Pacific Tbk (TSPC) and International SBP Group.
The ceremony was attended by key government figures, including Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) Taruna Ikrar, and Presidential Special Envoy Raffi Ahmad.
