Bumi Resources Completes Strategic CPM Stake Sale as Coal Giant Sharpens Diversification Push
Key Takeaways

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), the world's largest thermal coal exporter, has completed the divestment of its 3.03% stake in PT Citra Palu Mineral (CPM) for US$9.56 million, marking another step in the Indonesian mining giant's broader portfolio restructuring and diversification strategy.
The transaction was valued at US$9.56 million, equivalent to Rp151.99 billion, with the shares transferred to PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS), Indonesia's listed gold and minerals producer and a subsidiary of Bumi Resources.
The divestment signals that Bumi Resources is becoming increasingly selective in how it allocates capital as global coal producers navigate volatile commodity prices and growing investor demand for diversified resource portfolios.
Rather than fully exiting the asset, Bumi is maintaining indirect exposure through its majority stake in BRMS. That allows the company to streamline its investment structure while preserving upside from CPM's future performance.
Capital Reallocation Takes Center Stage
Renno Wicaksono, Corporate Communications & CSR Director of Bumi Resources, said the transaction reflects the company's evolving investment priorities.
"As the Company continues to advance its diversification agenda, this divestment allows Bumi Resources to reallocate capital toward the continued pursuit of its growth initiatives," Renno said in an official statement issued Tuesday.
He added that Bumi's strategy is increasingly focused on assets where it holds a controlling interest and can exercise greater operational influence.
The sale comprised 24,999 Series A shares and 927,236 Series C shares in Citra Palu Mineral.
Indirect Exposure Remains
Despite selling its direct stake, Bumi emphasized that it continues to benefit from CPM's business performance through its ownership in BRMS.
"The Company maintains its indirect exposure to CPM's performance through its shareholding in BRMS," Renno said.
The transaction highlights Bumi's ongoing transformation from a company primarily associated with thermal coal into a broader natural resources group with investments spanning coal, gold and other mineral assets.
