Indonesia’s Pertamina Hikes Non-Subsidized Fuel Prices as Global Crude Pressures Bite

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s state-owned energy titan, Pertamina, announced a sharp price increase for its premium, non-subsidized fuel products, effective June 10, 2026. The aggressive price adjustment targets the company's high-octane brands, Pertamax and Pertamax Green 95, as the company realigns its commercial portfolio with volatile global crude oil benchmarks.

The price of Pertamax (RON 92) surged from Rp 12,300 per liter to Rp 16,250 ($1.02) per liter. Concurrently, the environmentally friendly Pertamax Green 95 (RON 95) jumped from Rp 12,900 per liter to Rp 17,000 ($1.07) per liter.

This move signals Indonesia’s commitment to fiscal discipline and reducing market distortions. By aligning commercial fuel prices with global realities, Pertamina protects its balance sheet from mounting energy costs. Crucially, keeping mass-market subsidized fuels unchanged prevents a broader inflationary spike, maintaining consumer spending stability across the archipelago.

Navigating Market Volatility

Pertamina Patra Niaga, the commercial and trading arm of the state energy firm, finalized the decision after intensive consultations with the Indonesian government. Officials stressed that the price hike represents a routine, formula-driven evaluation designed to absorb international market pressures while safeguarding domestic distribution networks.

Roberth MV Dumatubun, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, defended the strategy as a necessary step for national energy security.

"The price adjustment for Pertamax and Pertamax Green follows prevailing regulations and forms part of our energy governance implementation," Dumatubun stated in an official release on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. "This process balances business sustainability, service quality, and the certainty of energy supply for the public."

Shielding the Consumer Base

While premium users face higher costs at the pump, Pertamina is fiercely shielding lower-income consumers from the price shock. The state enterprise confirmed that heavily subsidized fuels will see absolutely no price changes.

"In our commitment to distributing subsidized fuel, the retail prices for both products remain unchanged," Dumatubun added during his Tuesday press briefing.

Consequently, the mass-market gasoline brand Pertalite holds firm at Rp 10,000 ($0.63) per liter. Similarly, the subsidized diesel brand BioSolar remains locked at Rp 6,800 ($0.43) per liter.

Ensuring Supply Stability

The price shakeup leaves other ultra-premium tiers untouched for the month. The top-tier Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) holds steady at Rp 20,750 ($1.31) per liter, while high-grade diesel options Dexlite and Pertamina Dex remain at Rp 23,000 ($1.45) and Rp 24,800 ($1.56) per liter respectively.

Management emphasizes that fuel logistics remain completely uncompromised by the pricing shift. Pertamina has activated its full logistics network to ensure that premium fuel supplies stay robust and entirely uninterrupted across its vast network of retail stations nationwide.
