Silmy Karim Detained After KPK Questioning

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — The Corruption Eradication Commission detains Deputy Immigration and Corrections Minister Silmy Karim on Thursday, Jun 4, 2026 in Jakarta after questioning him for about 10 hours over an alleged graft case linked to foreign national stay permits, a move that confirms his status as a suspect.

Silmy walked out of the examination room at around 8.36 a.m. local time wearing an orange KPK detainee vest and was escorted by commission officers.

The KPK has not yet disclosed the full case construction against Silmy.

Silmy had turned himself in to the KPK on Wednesday, Jun 3, 2026, after investigators searched for him in connection with a sting operation involving West Jakarta Immigration Office head Ronald Arman Abdul.

The sting operation was tied to alleged corrupt practices in the processing of stay permits for foreign nationals.

Silmy arrived at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta at around 10.40 p.m. local time on Wednesday, escorted by several men in safari-style outfits who were believed to be his guards.

Guards Blocked Journalists

Several of Silmy's guards blocked journalists who were trying to take pictures and ask questions during his arrival. They pushed reporters and covered cameras as Silmy entered the KPK building.

One of Silmy's guards allegedly struck a journalist as the former immigration director general at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights entered the building.

Silmy briefly responded when reporters asked about his whereabouts after KPK investigators had searched for him over the West Jakarta immigration sting operation. "Just like this, settling the agenda," Silmy said.

After filling out the guest book, Silmy was immediately taken for intensive questioning.

The KPK arrested 17 people in the sting operation, including Ronald and former acting immigration director general Saffar Godam. The operation began on Tuesday, Jun 2, 2026, and was linked to alleged graft in the handling of stay permits for foreign nationals.

Investigators also seized evidence, including seven cars, 15 motorcycles, 11 luxury bicycles and hundreds of grams of gold.
