JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Presidential Communication Office has outlined three positive impacts of the 8+4+5 economic package announced by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto after a limited cabinet meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, Sept 15, 2025.
The package consists of eight acceleration programs for 2025, four programs continuing in 2026, and five initiatives aimed at job creation.
Senior Expert Staff at the Presidential Communication Office Fithra Faisal said the stimulus package is designed to provide quality jobs, strengthen household purchasing power, and accelerate economic growth. He explained that the measures directly respond to public demands, particularly for protecting gig workers who lack formal contracts.
“Especially online motorcycle taxi drivers, who recently received significant attention from the President,” Fithra said in his statement on Tuesday, Sept 16, 2025.
One of the eight acceleration programs provides a 50% discount on social security premiums for occupational accident and death insurance under BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, targeting motorcycle taxi drivers, base drivers, couriers, and logistics workers. Another program ensures apprenticeships for 20,000 fresh university graduates with a monthly stipend of Rp 3.3 million, aimed at preventing graduate unemployment.
“Government guarantees that 20,000 fresh graduates can directly enter the system through apprenticeships so they do not remain idle,” Fithra said.
The job-creation element is reinforced through cash-for-work schemes under the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Public Works, alongside flagship initiatives of President Prabowo, including the Red White Village Cooperatives and Red White Urban Ward Cooperatives, projected to absorb over one million workers, and the Red White Fishermen Villages, expected to create more than 200,000 jobs.
“All of these focus on ensuring the government responds to challenges in providing quality jobs, while gig workers also benefit from workplace safety guarantees. They are now receiving dedicated government attention,” he added.
Fithra also emphasized that the 8+4+5 economic package is expected to maintain and even raise household purchasing power. The government will distribute 10 kilograms of rice for two months to 18.3 million beneficiary families, while also expanding income tax relief (PPh 21 borne by the government) for workers in the tourism sector.
“When people receive social assistance, it directly reduces their spending burden. Then, contributions that have been financially burdensome are subsidized by the government. This will support purchasing power,” he explained.
Cash-for-work programs from the transport and public works ministries are also seen as helping maintain household income.
“These projects generate jobs and wages, which directly impact purchasing power,” Fithra stressed.
Finally, Fithra underlined that the package is expected to help Indonesia achieve its 2025 economic growth target of 5.2%. He noted that in the second quarter of 2025, the economy still expanded by 5.12% thanks in part to stimulus measures that boosted disposable income.
