JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a warm, three-hour meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Ozyorny, just outside Minsk, during a brief stopover on his return from France. The two leaders discussed expanding trade in strategic commodities, including fertilizer and potash, and agreed to strengthen bilateral ties.
The informal meeting, which took place on Tuesday, July 15, reflected a growing rapport between the two heads of state. President Lukashenko hosted the Indonesian leader at his recently restored countryside residence, a venue previously visited only by Russian President Vladimir Putin and, before its renovation, Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“I am honored to welcome you to this home,” said Lukashenko. “After its restoration, only President Putin has visited. Before that, even President Xi Jinping visited here with his family.”
In return, President Prabowo expressed gratitude for the hospitality and extended an invitation to President Lukashenko to visit Indonesia. Lukashenko welcomed the invitation and said he looked forward to returning to Indonesia, where he last visited in 2013.
Focus on Fertilizer and Potash Trade
President Prabowo revealed that the two sides discussed mutual economic interests, especially in the trade of strategic goods. “Belarus needs many of our commodities, and we also need fertilizer and potash from them,” Prabowo told reporters after landing in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The discussion signals a potential shift in Indonesia’s approach to securing long-term fertilizer supply as part of its national food security agenda. Belarus is a major global producer of potash, a key input in agriculture, while Indonesia is ramping up its procurement of such materials amid rising domestic demand.
President Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya during the visit. According to a statement from the official website of the Indonesian presidency, the dialogue in Ozyorny marks the beginning of deeper cooperation between the two countries, particularly in addressing each nation’s strategic supply needs.
