JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia and Singapore are poised to deepen one of Southeast Asia's most important economic relationships as President Prabowo Subianto and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong prepare to sign 26 bilateral agreements during their annual Leaders' Retreat in Jakarta on Monday.
The agreements, covering multiple strategic sectors, underscore growing cooperation between Southeast Asia's largest economy and one of the region's leading financial centers as both governments seek to strengthen resilience amid an increasingly uncertain global landscape.
Singapore has consistently ranked among Indonesia's largest foreign investors, making bilateral policy coordination closely watched by global businesses and financial markets.
The latest agreements are expected to reinforce collaboration across investment, infrastructure, defense, energy transition, food security, healthcare, and regional connectivity, potentially creating new opportunities for companies operating in both countries.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the leaders will oversee the signing of 26 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) by officials from both governments during the summit at Jakarta's Merdeka Palace.
While the government has yet to disclose details of the agreements, Singapore's Prime Minister's Office said the two leaders will discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation while exchanging views on regional and global developments.
The meeting marks the second annual Indonesia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat following the inaugural summit held in Singapore in June 2025 during Prabowo's first state visit after taking office in October 2024.
That meeting produced 19 strategic agreements spanning defense, law enforcement, investment, renewable energy, agriculture, transportation, tourism, and workforce development.
Following last year's summit, Prabowo described the discussions as "highly productive" after the two leaders reached agreements across a broad range of sectors.
In defense and security, both governments reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the bilateral defense cooperation agreement while accelerating technical work on designated military training areas.
The two countries also advanced implementation of their extradition treaty through an updated memorandum of understanding between their respective Attorneys General.
Economic cooperation expanded through six bilateral working groups covering special economic zones, agriculture, tourism, labor mobility, and transportation.
Prabowo also highlighted cooperation between Temasek Holdings, Singapore's state-owned investment company, and Danantara Indonesia, Indonesia's sovereign investment agency, particularly in renewable energy projects and the development of low-carbon industrial zones in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun.
Food security remains another priority.
Indonesia has welcomed Singapore's offer to share advanced agricultural technologies, including urban farming systems and sustainable post-harvest practices, to help strengthen domestic food production.
Healthcare cooperation has also gained momentum, with Prabowo inviting greater Singaporean participation in Indonesia's healthcare transformation through investments in new medical and nursing schools.
The leaders also discussed expanding opportunities for skilled Indonesian workers, particularly in elderly care and caregiving services, sectors facing rising demand in Singapore due to its aging population.
Improving transportation links remains another focus of the partnership.
Prabowo reiterated Indonesia's commitment to increasing direct flights between the two countries while upgrading airport infrastructure to facilitate faster travel and strengthen business connectivity.
The latest Leaders' Retreat reflects both governments' broader ambition to deepen economic integration as Southeast Asia continues to attract global manufacturers, technology firms, and investors seeking alternatives amid shifting geopolitical and supply chain dynamics.
