JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Pertamina New and Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of the state-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero), signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday, Jan 13, 2026 in Suzhou with GCL Intelligent Energy (Suzhou) Co., Ltd to accelerate clean energy development in Indonesia, a move aimed at cutting emissions and strengthening energy security. The partnership lays groundwork for projects spanning waste to energy, renewables, and gas based power as Indonesia pushes toward its Net Zero Emission 2060 target.
The agreement was signed by Pertamina NRE Chief Executive Officer John Anis and GCL Chairman Zhi Fei at GCL headquarters in Suzhou, marking a strategic expansion of cross border collaboration. The companies said the framework opened opportunities to deploy proven Chinese technologies adapted to Indonesian market conditions and regulation.
Anis said the partnership was designed to combine global experience with local execution. “Collaboration with GCL is a strategic step to accelerate clean energy development in Indonesia, by combining GCL’s global experience with Pertamina’s local capabilities to deliver sustainable and competitive solutions,” he said.
Zhi said Indonesia had emerged as a priority market amid a global push for decarbonization. “GCL hopes to use the momentum of Indonesia’s energy transition to build mutually beneficial cooperation with Pertamina NRE, especially in waste to energy, photovoltaic integration, and energy storage,” he said.
As part of the visit, the Pertamina NRE delegation toured GCL’s waste to energy facilities to assess technology performance, environmental management systems, and operating practices. The company said such technologies could address Indonesia’s mounting waste challenge while supporting rising electricity demand.
Pertamina NRE said the partnership would also support more flexible business models to attract investment and accelerate commercialization of clean energy. The company has positioned itself as a key driver of Indonesia’s transition, arguing that international collaboration is essential to meet climate goals without sacrificing growth.
