JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia began 2026 with a dual energy price policy as the government kept electricity tariffs unchanged for the first quarter while fuel prices fell across major retailers, a move aimed at safeguarding purchasing power and economic stability. The measures took effect nationwide from January and are expected to ease household and business costs at the start of the year.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that electricity tariffs for non subsidized customers would remain unchanged for January to March 2026. The policy applies to 13 customer groups supplied by PLN, despite formula based calculations indicating potential adjustments.
Acting Director General of Electricity Tri Winarno said the decision was taken to protect consumers from cost pressures.
"Based on the calculation of macroeconomic parameters, electricity tariffs could potentially change, but to maintain people’s purchasing power the government decided to keep electricity tariffs for the first quarter of 2026 unchanged," Tri said on Wednesday, Dec 31, 2025.
Under existing regulations, electricity tariffs are reviewed every three months using variables such as the exchange rate, crude oil prices, inflation, and coal benchmark prices. For early 2026, the government opted for stability, while maintaining subsidies for 25 customer groups.
At the same time, fuel prices moved lower across Indonesia as Pertamina and private fuel retailers adjusted pump prices from Jan 1, 2026. The cuts followed easing global energy prices and formed part of broader efforts to manage inflation.
In Jakarta, Pertamina reduced the price of Pertamax RON 92 to Rp12,350 per liter from Rp12,750 in December 2025. Pertamax Turbo RON 98 fell to Rp13,400 per liter, while Pertamax Green RON 95 declined to Rp13,150 per liter.
Diesel products also saw significant reductions, with Dexlite priced at Rp13,500 per liter and Pertamina Dex at Rp13,600 per liter. Subsidized fuels remained unchanged, with Pertalite at Rp10,000 per liter and Biosolar at Rp6,800 per liter.
Private operators followed a similar trend. Shell lowered Shell Super RON 92 to Rp12,700 per liter, while Shell V Power RON 95 dropped to Rp13,190 per liter and Shell V Power Diesel to Rp13,860 per liter.
BP-AKR cut BP 92 to Rp12,500 per liter and BP Ultimate Diesel to Rp13,860 per liter. Vivo also reduced prices, with Revvo 92 selling at Rp12,700 per liter and Diesel Primus at Rp13,610 per liter.
Energy officials said the combination of stable electricity tariffs and lower fuel prices was designed to provide certainty for households and businesses while supporting broader macroeconomic resilience. The government also urged consumers to use energy efficiently as part of national energy security efforts.
The early 2026 energy price adjustments reflect a cautious policy stance, balancing fiscal considerations with the need to maintain affordability and confidence as Indonesia navigates global economic uncertainty.
