JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Pertamina records a milestone on Monday, Dec 15, 2025 in Jakarta as MSCI upgrades its ESG rating to BBB from BB, reflecting stronger global confidence in the state energy firm’s sustainability transformation and governance practices.
The improvement came as the company marked its 68th anniversary, signaling international recognition of its progress in environmental management, social programs, and corporate governance.
PT Pertamina (Persero) was also ranked first among 57 integrated oil and gas companies globally by Sustainalytics, which assigned the firm an ESG Risk Rating score of 23.4, placing it in the medium risk category.
The result positioned Pertamina at the top of its sub-industry, reinforcing its standing among global energy peers amid increasing scrutiny of ESG performance.
Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron said the upgrade validated Pertamina’s long-term transformation strategy toward a more sustainable and transparent energy business.
“An upgrade to BBB is international recognition of Pertamina’s efforts to run a greener, more transparent, and more responsible business,” Baron said on Monday, Dec 15, 2025.
He said the stronger ESG standing would support Pertamina’s role in reinforcing national energy security while aligning with Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 target.
Baron added that ESG had become central to Pertamina’s corporate strategy rather than a compliance exercise.
During its anniversary momentum, Pertamina reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating ESG implementation across its entire value chain, including upstream, downstream, and new energy segments.
The company viewed ESG as a key pillar in supporting government targets on energy self-sufficiency and long-term decarbonization.
Baron said Pertamina had entered an acceleration phase of sustainability transformation, focusing on operational decarbonization, renewable energy development, circular economy initiatives, and stronger governance.
These measures were designed to enhance competitiveness amid shifting global energy and investment landscapes.
He said Pertamina would continue to expand green investments, scale up renewable energy projects, and strengthen good corporate governance standards.
All initiatives were positioned as part of a long-term strategy to establish Pertamina as an energy transition champion in Southeast Asia.
