JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – PT Freeport Indonesia has confirmed that rescue efforts are continuing day and night to locate five of its workers still trapped after a landslide in the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine in Central Papua.
Freeport’s Vice President of Corporate Communications Katri Krisnati said on Thursday, Sept 25, 2025, that teams have been working under extremely challenging conditions, as wet material continues to shift and poses high risks to rescuers.
“Excavation from two access routes is being maintained, with additional supporting infrastructure as the site becomes deeper and air supply increasingly limited,” Katri told Investortrust.

She added that the company has deployed heavy machinery, including remote-controlled loaders, to reduce risks for the rescue team. “We invite everyone to continue praying and providing moral support so that our five colleagues can be found soon,” Katri said.
The incident occurred on Monday, Sept 8, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m. local time, when a flow of wet material blocked certain areas of the underground mine, cutting off escape routes for seven workers.
On Saturday, Sept 20, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m. local time, the rescue team recovered and evacuated two bodies believed to be among the trapped workers. The search continues for the remaining five.
