JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk, or WIFI, has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its broadband network to 25 million homes nationwide within five years, marking a bold step in Indonesia’s digital transformation.
The initiative will roll out through a combination of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and Fixed Wireless Access technologies, with a heavy emphasis on affordability and inclusivity.
CEO Yune Marketatmo said the project would start with the construction of 5 million initial connections in Java within the first year. “We are building a network that will connect up to 25 million homes, starting with 5 million in Java this year,” he said at a recent media briefing in Jakarta.
In its initial phase, Surge will focus on reaching underserved segments, including small businesses, traditional markets, and educational institutions—groups often left behind in Indonesia’s digital economy.
“We’re not just building internet networks—we’re building hope. We’re not merely connecting homes, we’re realizing dreams,” Yune said.
To achieve this, Surge plans to offer high-speed connections of up to 200 Mbps at an accessible price of Rp 100,000 ($6.15) per month. The company has set ambitious targets to reach 15 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM), 100,000 schools, and 10,000 traditional markets.
The expansion will be partly funded by a Rp 5.8 trillion ($356 million) rights issue, which will be used to develop 4 million FTTH homepasses across Java starting in the second quarter of 2025.
The move signals Surge’s long-term commitment to narrowing the digital divide in Indonesia and unlocking economic opportunities for millions. “This is not just infrastructure—it’s the foundation for an inclusive digital economy,” Yune said.
Surge is now effectively controlled by Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the younger brother of President Prabowo Subianto. Hashim owns 45% of PT Arsari Sentra Data, which in turn controls 50.37% of PT Investasi Sukses Bersama (ISB), the majority shareholder of WIFI.
