JAKARTA, Investortrust.id—Leveraging digital technology, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) announced it will establish a comprehensive digital database aimed at better monitoring and protecting Indonesian migrant workers overseas.
With this digital monitoring system, the Indonesian government will swiftly track workers abroad and promptly respond to issues faced by migrant workers via Indonesian embassies and consulates in host countries.
Kadin Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie made this announcement Saturday (Mar 15, 2025), following the signing of four Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), including one with the recently established Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI).
For the first time in Indonesian history, under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, a dedicated ministry exclusively focuses on protecting migrant workers—previously handled by the Ministry of Manpower.
The digital system aims to streamline the collaboration between Kadin, the government, the Agency for Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI), Indonesian diaspora communities, local chambers of commerce, and employment agencies in destination countries. It particularly targets non-procedural migrant workers in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Kadin supports ending Indonesia's moratorium on sending migrant workers to Saudi Arabia to formalize protection measures.
After workers return home, Kadin plans empowerment and entrepreneurship programs, helping former migrant workers leverage their overseas experience. This includes skill training, access to financing, and marketing support facilitated by Kadin members.
Recognizing remittances from migrant workers—averaging US$10 billion annually over the past five years—Kadin aims to transform the employment of migrant workers into a competitive export industry. This aligns with President Prabowo’s target of achieving 8% economic growth, leveraging migrant worker remittances to boost the national economy.
