Qatar to Invest $20 Billion in Housing Projects in Kalibata, Cibitung, and Near Train Stations
JAKARTA, investortust.id – The Head of the Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, has revealed that Qatari investors are set to pour in $20 billion, or about Rp 327 trillion, to build one million apartment units in urban areas, including Kalibata, Cibitung, and regions surrounding train stations.
Hashim shared, “From Qatar, these apartments will cost around $16,000–20,000 per unit. Multiply that by one million units, and you have $16–20 billion. This comes from private investment.” He made these remarks at the Ministry of Public Works office in South Jakarta on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Recently, the Indonesian government, represented by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Maruarar Sirait, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of one million housing units with Sheikh Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Hassan Al-Thani, Secretary General of the Qatari Royal Family, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Hashim mentioned that the Qatari government is committed to building 3–5 million housing units and apartments for low-income residents. He added, “For the Qatari Government, this includes a mix of rural homes priced at approximately Rp 75–100 million and urban units costing $18,000-20,000, amounting to several tens of billions of dollars.”
Potential locations for the development of these MBR housing units with foreign investors include three key areas. “The first location is in Kalibata, covering 24 hectares owned by the central government, which is the former National Land Agency complex. Then there's land belonging to the Ministry of Defense, 41 hectares at the Metland Lake in Cibitung. Additionally, there are 30 hectares in Kemayoran, owned by the State Secretariat,” he explained.
Furthermore, apartments will be built near railway stations following President Prabowo Subianto's directive. “If feasible, every train station in Indonesia, especially in major cities, should have apartment buildings, which is known as transit-oriented development (TOD),” Hashim added.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Fakri Hamzah, disclosed that Qatari investors plan to build one million housing units with a high-rise building concept. Fahri Hamzah mentioned this commitment following the MoU signing between Indonesia and Qatar for the construction of one million housing units.
Fahri Hamzah elaborated on the main issue of urban housing, highlighting the prevalence of slum areas. To address this, Qatari investors will build apartments to help clean up these slum regions. “This will be one of the first orientations, so we can gradually clean up 98 cities in Indonesia, including slum areas along rivers, canals, and seafronts,” he said.
