Prabowo Confident Indonesia Will Stop Fuel Imports Within Five Years
SUMEDANG, investortrust.id – President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia will achieve energy self-sufficiency within the next five years, eliminating the need for fuel imports. This vision aligns with his "Asta Cita Prabowo," a strategic agenda aimed at achieving energy independence.
“We must pursue energy self-sufficiency, and our goal is to be 100% self-reliant in energy. I am confident that in five years, we will no longer need to import fuel,” President Prabowo stated during a visit to Sumedang, West Java, on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.
Energy at the Heart of Transformation
Prabowo emphasized the critical role of energy in Indonesia’s transformation efforts. The country is intensifying downstream industrialization to escape the middle-income trap and position itself as a developed nation.
He highlighted Indonesia’s vast natural resources as a foundation for this transformation, but stressed the importance of technological advancements in ensuring success.
“We are now among the global frontrunners in energy transformation, particularly in transitioning to renewable and clean energy,” Prabowo said.
Progress in Renewable Energy Development
One of the government’s major steps toward energy self-sufficiency includes the inauguration of 26 power plants and 11 transmission substations across 18 provinces, with a total capacity of 3.2 gigawatts (GW). Notably, 89% of this capacity comes from clean energy sources, including a combination of natural gas and renewable energy.
“While other countries are making noise, we focus on tangible progress. With our capabilities, I believe we will achieve energy self-sufficiency in the near future,” Prabowo remarked.
The inauguration reflects Indonesia's commitment to green energy, showcasing its progress in clean and renewable energy projects to meet national energy demands sustainably.
