Government Claims Japan Interested in Participating in 3 Million Homes Program
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlements, Fahri Hamzah, announced that Japan has expressed interest in joining the government’s ambitious 3 Million Homes program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
"There's been great enthusiasm following the President's announcement about building 3 million homes. Japan has shown interest. I even challenged our Japanese colleagues earlier, and they whispered to me, 'The interest rate is quite low.' So, there's a good chance Japan could join the program," Fahri told reporters at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Fahri added that efforts to attract other international investors, including those from China, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, are ongoing. "By the end of this month, I may hold a meeting in Doha. China has already visited us twice. As for Abu Dhabi, their ambassador reached out to me recently, and we are arranging a meeting," he said.
Previously, Fahri revealed that investors from Qatar have committed to constructing 1 million housing units in the form of high-rise buildings. This was announced after he witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Indonesia and Qatar at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta last Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
"This is a commitment from Abdul Aziz Al-Thani and his group, particularly as members of the royal family. The agreement includes the construction of 1 million units, specifically vertical housing," Fahri stated.
He explained that the high-rise buildings will be distributed across regions in Indonesia in need of urban restructuring. For the implementation phase, a joint venture company will be established to manage the project.
