Prabowo Launches Massive 62,000-Home Subsidized Mortgage Deal, Eyes India Model to Accelerate Housing Push

BATANG, Investortrust.id — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto launched a sweeping multi-province subsidized housing campaign, inaugurating a mass signing for 62,000 subsidized mortgage units while signaling a dramatic shift toward adopting global housing construction models.

The mass signing event, anchored at the Puri Delta City Side residential project in Batang, Central Java, bundled the subsidized home loans (KPR FLPP) with Rp 880 billion ($55.3 million) in housing microloans (KUR) tailored for low-income workers across 36 provinces.

Indonesia's aggressive push to expand subsidized housing directly stimulates the domestic banking, construction, and building material sectors while expanding credit access to low-income populations. By actively studying mass-scale housing programs from major emerging economies, the administration signals a potential shift toward industrialized construction techniques, opening doors for international partnerships and large-scale infrastructure investments.

Nationwide Rollout Targets Low-Income Buyers

The nationwide initiative targeted low-income households across 372 regencies through 165 simultaneous physical and virtual signing locations.

During the central ceremony, President Prabowo and Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait symbolically handed over house keys and microloan aid packages to beneficiaries representing various informal and low-income worker associations.

"We are present at the mass signing ceremony for 62,000 subsidized housing units held simultaneously at 165 locations across 372 regencies in 36 provinces throughout Indonesia," President Prabowo Subianto said during his inaugural address in Batang, Central Java on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Prabowo emphasized that providing decent, affordable housing remains a fundamental constitutional mandate that the government must fulfill through continuous policy innovation and scaled financing mechanisms.

Looking to India, China, and Egypt for Scaling Up

To address Indonesia's structural housing backlog, President Prabowo announced that the government is sending delegation teams abroad to study high-volume housing execution models.

Highlighting India's achievement in constructing 40 million housing units over a 12-year span—averaging roughly 3 million homes annually—Prabowo stressed the need for Indonesia to adopt international technical innovations and risk-taking strategies.

"I am interested in India's experience. They were able to build 40 million homes in 12 years, or roughly 3 million homes each year. I am studying how they did it; there are specific techniques we can try," President Prabowo Subianto stated in his address in Batang on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

"I am sending teams everywhere—to China, India, and Egypt—to inspect, take notes, and learn so we can adopt the best practices from other nations," Prabowo added during the event.

Following the Central Java launch, the housing ministry announced plans to host a follow-up mass mortgage signing for an additional 71,000 subsidized homes in East Java.
