JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s oil and gas production has exceeded the government’s target in the first half of 2025, reaching 111.9% of the level set in the state budget, the highest achievement since 2008. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said average combined production from January to June reached 1.81 million barrel oil equivalent per day.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said the 2025 state budget set the combined oil and gas production target at 1.61 million barrel oil equivalent per day. Output was recorded at 1.813 million in January, 1.791 million in February, 1.824 million in March, 1.812 million in April, 1.814 million in May, and 1.754 million in June.
Bahlil noted that the June decline was caused by maintenance and repairs carried out by several oil and gas contractors, which required temporary shutdowns. “If we look at the trend, there was a drop in June, but that was because several operators halted production for repairs. It took about two weeks before operations ramped up again in July,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, Aug 11, 2025.
Oil production in the first half of the year increased steadily, starting at 599,600 barrels per day in January and reaching 608,100 barrels per day in June, surpassing the annual target of 605,000 barrels per day. Bahlil expressed confidence that the annual average will meet the target by year-end.
According to data from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, this marks the first time since 2008 that oil production has surpassed the state budget target. “I thank SKK Migas, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, and the entire team for their cooperation. As of June, our oil output has exceeded the state budget target,” Bahlil said.
For natural gas, the 2025 target was set at 1.005 million barrel oil equivalent per day. Actual output was 1.213 million in January, 1.193 million in February, 1.221 million in March, 1.209 million in April, 1.211 million in May, and 1.146 million in June. Despite the dip in June, gas production remained above the target.
