HONOLULU, Investortrust.id — The President of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Asia Pacific, Rusmin Lawin, delivered an inspiring keynote address during the World Habitat Day celebration in Honolulu on Monday, Oct 6, 2025, highlighting the crucial role of sustainable real estate development in driving both green and blue economy transformation across the Asia-Pacific region.
The event, themed “Urban Resilience: Adapting and Transforming through All Shocks and Stresses,” was attended by key leaders including Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, Honolulu City Council Member Matt Weyer, FIABCI-USA President Shirley Johnson-Boyd, UN CIFAL Honolulu Director Athline Clark, and industry leader Jack Legal of HAR, HBR, and Legal Realty.
Lawin emphasized that Asia-Pacific, as a region defined by dynamic economies and fragile ecosystems, holds a unique responsibility to lead sustainable transformation. “Our shared commitment to sustainability must reflect that diversity—balancing innovation, economic growth, and environmental responsibility,” he said.
FIABCI’s Global Mandate for Sustainability
Founded in 1951, FIABCI (Fédération Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobiliers) represents real estate professionals across 76 national and regional chapters worldwide. The federation works closely with governments, developers, and sustainability experts to align the property industry with global environmental goals.
Under Lawin’s leadership, the Asia Pacific division has been particularly active in advancing policies that support both the green and blue economies—an integrated approach that addresses land-based sustainability and ocean-based resilience.
In the green economy framework, FIABCI advocates sustainable urban planning, promotes renewable energy integration in real estate projects, and encourages carbon-efficient design. Meanwhile, under the blue economy vision, the federation focuses on responsible coastal development, sustainable water management, and eco-tourism models that balance growth with marine biodiversity protection.
“FIABCI serves as a global platform where public and private sectors converge to redefine the purpose of real estate—from profit-driven development to purpose-driven transformation,” Lawin remarked.
Strengthening Asia-Pacific and Pacific Islands Collaboration
The Honolulu forum marked another milestone in the ongoing partnership between FIABCI-USA, FIABCI Asia Pacific, and local Hawaiian institutions. Over the past eight years, this collaboration has promoted knowledge sharing and project linkages between U.S. and Asia-Pacific real estate professionals—ranging from climate-resilient housing models to renewable infrastructure financing.
Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke commended the long-standing partnership, saying it has “set an example of how local and regional collaboration can strengthen global sustainability goals.”
The event also served as a platform for cross-sector discussions between urban planners, developers, and international agencies on how to make cities more resilient to environmental shocks while ensuring inclusivity and economic opportunity.
Lawin concluded his remarks with a message that resonated across the audience: “Sustainability is not a concept; it is a commitment. Through the green and blue economies, we are shaping a future where real estate development becomes a force for climate resilience, equity, and long-term prosperity.”
