JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Eyewear conglomerate EssilorLuxottica and tech giant Meta Platforms rolled out their latest artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses across Indonesia on Tuesday, introducing next-generation Ray-Ban Meta and performance-oriented Oakley Meta lineups scheduled for retail availability on Nov. 11, 2026.
The launch underscores the accelerating integration of ambient artificial intelligence into mainstream consumer wearables across Southeast Asia, shifting smart glasses from niche experimental hardware into everyday lifestyle and athletic accessories. By embedding visual capture, multimodal voice assistance, real-time linguistic translation, and athletic performance telemetry directly into iconic spectacle frames, the partnership aims to capture Indonesia’s massive smartphone-first demographic seeking hands-free computing alternatives.
Multimodal AI and Prescription Customization
Unveiled during a joint media presentation in Jakarta, the flagship Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 collection arrives in three signature silhouettes: Wayfarer, Aviator, and Zena. Each frame features an integrated 3K Ultra HD camera engineered for hands-free video and photography, accompanied by a six-microphone directional array designed to isolate voice commands and elevate audio clarity during wireless calls.
Users trigger operational queries through custom tactile action buttons or via wake phrases targeting Meta AI, enabling hands-free access to itinerary reminders, localized point-of-interest suggestions, real-time audio translation, and message dictation without removing connected smartphones from pockets or bags. Battery life across the third-generation frames supports up to nine hours of continuous operational readiness.
"We are thrilled to expand the AI eyewear category in Indonesia through the launch of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, Ray-Ban Meta Optics, and Oakley Meta, designed to enrich users' everyday activities," said Dailami Aziz, President Director of EssilorLuxottica Indonesia. "Together with Meta, we invite the public to experience more seamless interactions with the world and one another, ranging from listening to music, conducting hands-free calls, live language translation, and capturing moments without holding a phone, to tracking athletic performance in real time."
Addressing corrective vision consumers, the brands also debuted the Ray-Ban Meta Optics lineup alongside Blayzer Optics Gen 2 and Scriber Optics Gen 2 frames. These models support custom optical prescriptions, Transitions photochromic adaptations, blue-light filtration, and polarized coatings across seasonal color finishes including Transparent Shiny Dark Olive, Shiny Brick Brown, and Transparent Shiny Ocean Blue.
High-Performance Athletic Telemetry with Oakley
Targeting competitive sports and outdoor recreation, the collaboration introduced dedicated Oakley Meta smart frames spanning two distinct variants: the lifestyle-oriented HSTN and the rugged Vanguard.
The Oakley Meta HSTN features open-ear spatial audio drivers, a 3K Ultra HD video module, and IPX4 splash resistance. For high-intensity athletics and extreme terrains, the specialized Oakley Meta Vanguard incorporates total dust-tight and water-immersion protection certified at IP67, paired with high-contrast PRIZM lens optics and a wraparound ergonomic Three-Point Fit profile featuring swappable nose pads engineered to seat comfortably beneath cycling helmets and caps.
Crucially, the Vanguard model embeds direct software integration with digital training applications Strava and Garmin, allowing endurance athletes to display real-time biometrics—including heart rate, cycling cadence, and running splits—without looking down at a smartwatch or phone. Users can also superimpose dynamic athletic telemetry overlays directly onto recorded video clips when sharing workouts to sports communities.
In an official release, Diogo Rejtman Guimaraes, Vice President of Global Communications and Brand Activation at Oakley, noted that expanding Oakley Meta into new territories represents a commitment to pushing human performance boundaries by embedding ambient athletic intelligence seamlessly into competitive training regimes.
Ricky Safir, Sport and Marketing Manager at Oakley Indonesia, confirmed that the Vanguard's specialized chassis construction and direct metric connectivity justify its differentiated positioning.
"Specifically for the Oakley Vanguard, its architecture is tailored entirely for athletic performance, featuring distinct design ergonomics, reinforced materials, and specialized feature integration," Safir said. "The Oakley Meta Vanguard is engineered as high-durability extreme sports eyewear equipped with advanced performance tracking."
